Into the Woods - This scene almost invites me to take a walk down the trail and into the woods. I have seen this little building many times in the Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve in Mahomet, IL, but had no idea that there was a walking trail. It made for an interesting composition and the overcast rainy day seemed to bring out the colors and textures in the photo.
I usually return from a visit to Heron Park near Danville, Illinois with a number of bird photos, but on a recent stop there late one afternoon, my search for birds to photograph was not very fruitful. On the walk along the boardwalk I spotted this small 2 inch turtle sitting on a log and somewhat camouflaged. Sometimes, the photograph in front of you is not immediately obvious. Fortunately i spotted this little guy and was able to zoom in with my 100-400 zoom with a 1.4 teleconverter.
It has been awhile since I have gone to the country to photograph the skies at sunset. My heart was rather heavy tonight with thoughts and prayers for the difficult time some of my family members are going through right now. Sometimes I need to see the glory and majesty of a sunset to remember that the God of this universe who created such beautiful sunsets, holds each of us in His hands even in the most challenging times. This evening's sunset did not disappoint. Though I have been here many times, the skies behind the silhouette of the blue ridge elevator and the grove of trees were spectacular tonight, declaring the glory of creation. May this photo bring a sense of calm to you this day.
